This housing study was commissioned by the City of Eureka to demonstrate the potential of building over existing surface parking lots in Old Town- preserving parking in a busy area while adding much-needed housing above. The project is sited at the former location of Eureka's original City Hall, which was demolished in the 1980s due to seismic concerns.
The five-story scheme proposes 42 one-bedroom units, 3 two-bedroom units, and a rooftop penthouse, bar, or restaurant- a mix intended to activate the building at multiple levels. The design is meant as a prototype that could be adapted for similar sites throughout Old Town, offering developers and the City a concrete example of what infill housing over parking could look like.
