The Groth House is a one-of-a-kind property on the coast of Trinidad, designed and built over many years by artist Bruno Groth beginning in the 1960s. After his passing the house was sold, became a vacation rental, and fell into disrepair. The new owners planned to restore it to a single family residence- modernizing the house while respecting Groth's original vision.
The project involved extensive interior renovation, new lighting, HVAC, finishes, and plumbing throughout, as well as the enclosure of a large existing two-level covered outdoor space. The exterior stone steps and walkway were reworked to connect back to the driveway rather than leading only to the garden, and a new stone fence was designed to coordinate with existing site finishes. Construction documents were completed before the project was paused by the owner.
The historic photos show the house as Groth left it- including the mansard roof over the garage, which predates our involvement.
